I have an opportunity that will make a significant difference to your career and technical tax knowledge. You will work directly with a small number of private client tax partners on key projects. One of these partners will act as your mentor ensuring you develop your client skills and technical knowledge. Working directly with the partners will give you high visibility to all senior decision makers and put you in a position of high value - invaluable if you want to get ahead.

The firm has a strong UK and international tax presence, however this is not a corporate style environment with a long hour’s culture.

The work is diverse with a strong international slant. Experience of dealing with non dom, cross border tax planning, double tax treaties and the general issues facing top HNWI’s will be important.

The prospects are also excellent with a genuine opportunity to make partner.

Firm and clients:

The private client tax team has plenty of work thanks primarily to an existing client base that can be mined for high level consultancy fees. In addition to this the partners are good at winning work and there is plenty of great quality referrals coming through the doors. Clients are primarily HNWI’s and ultra HNWI’s many of whom are internationally mobile.

The firm’s culture is very open and friendly. I recruit for this firm on a regular basis. The firm has a great work life style balance (my candidate who was working at a Top 6 firm was surprised that no one was left in the office past 6.30pm) and does not believe in clock watching for the sake of it. No one stays late because it’s expected, but because there is a project to be completed.

The role:

You will be joining the partners on client visits and pitches. You will have the opportunity to participate actively during all of these and then produce and deliver project work. If you are reading this I expect you are already working with high quality clients, now imagine that you worked exclusively with the top 20% of the departments work. It goes without saying that you are likely to learn new things and improve your overall knowledge and experience.

The partner that I met with has also worked in a position similar to this role which greatly benefited their professional growth. The partner (senior manager at the time) was able to work with challenging and complex work and have a high level of access to the partner.  As you will be working with multiple partners you will not be isolated, which will ensure you are recognised for the work that you do.

Prospects:

There will be no one between you and the partners, which is great for your progression. You have two roads you can go down. You can develop into a technical guru and continue to work with the firms most complex private client work or you can advance to partner. If you compare the size of the private client team with the size of the firm then it is clear that the department could easily double in size. To be blunt, the firm will need more private client tax partners.
