In-house Tax Opportunity– Senior tax consultant, Project driven, London, Bonus 10-25%

The firm currently recruiting are an international services group with significant operations in Asia, the US and the UK.

The primary role of Group Tax is to provide strategic direction to the group by ensuring business opportunities and transactions are optimised. This will be done by making sure tax risks, both financial and reputational, are managed and mitigated in a manner consistent with internal risk management practices. They partner with UK business units and tax teams across the US, Asia and Africa to ensure the implementation of global tax policy, reporting, risk management and advisory/compliance work.

Your focus will be supporting managers on advisory, project and tax matters through a combination of technical research, project and general support – this will be 80% of the role. This will allow you to broaden your experience and gain significant exposure to international issues. The experience you will gain in a position like this will really allow you to develop as a professional and open up your opportunities in the in-house marketplace.

You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with Group Head Office and peers. You will have to leverage those relationships to share knowledge and improve business processes.

When speaking to one of the managers of the team, she cited one of the most interesting parts about being in the team is the real breadth of work she gains exposure to. She could be working with clients involved in business insurance one day and looking at asset management in the US the next. She loves how every big change in tax, or legislative development, will impact her role. The team do not export any of their work to accountancy firms which means you will have full access to all the interesting work and your knowledge will be continually added to.

This is a project driven role, but also a business facing one that requires strong interpersonal skills. Other tax professionals that have changes group tax have moved into other areas of the business or moved into more senior roles in other organisations.
