Job Purpose:
Responsible for assisting in the timely and accurate delivery of the Bank's direct and indirect tax compliance and reporting obligations with a particular focus on the UK, reporting to the Tax Compliance and Reporting Senior Manager. The successful candidate will be an integral member of a small but experienced team of tax experts gaining knowledge across a broad range of taxes.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
Tax compliance
* Co-ordinate the preparation of the Bank's UK corporate tax return and UK R&D claim in conjunction with external service providers and internal stakeholders
* Prepare and track time-limits for claims and elections e.g. group / consortium relief
* Support the preparation of tax forecasting for the Bank across its international footprint
* Co-ordinate the preparation of Bank Levy forecasting and computation across the UK group companies
* Assist with HMRC enquiries and other ad hoc tax queries
* Assist with the quarterly UK VAT return preparation, including running SAP reports
* Assist with other indirect tax filings including ESLs and overseas submissions
Tax Reporting
* Prepare UK company tax provision and the Bank's consolidated tax disclosures for the annual financial statements including liaison with internal stakeholders and the external auditors as necessary
* Deliver month and quarter end reporting processes for corporate tax and VAT including:
* Preparation of the tax provisions and tax journals
* Certification and substantiation of tax balances in the general ledger
* Preparation of management information reporting packs
Ad hoc Advisory
* Support the Tax team on an ad hoc basis on a wide range of other general tax matters including Business Advisory, Automatic Exchange of Information (FATCA / CRS), Transfer Pricing, BEPS and other tax change projects, Senior Accounting Officer certifications and processes
* Apply advanced excel skills to drive efficiencies and automation across taxes
* Assist in maintaining the Tax function's process and procedure manuals
* Keeping abreast of changing tax legislation and informing the Tax team of any impact.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
* ACA/CTA or equivalent tax qualification
* A knowledge of the UK corporate tax regime with strong tax accounting skills essential
* Experience of VAT accounting in financial services preferable
* Advanced level of Excel essential (Pivot tables, V-Lookups)
* User of OneSource (tax software) or similar preferable
* A working knowledge of SAP preferable
* Experience of working in banking and / or commodities an advantage but not essential
* Proactive, self-motivated team player with a high level of attention to detail
