Client Portfolio (65%)
Compliance:
* To prepare/review complex VAT returns and annual adjustments - most clients have partial exemption and/or business/non-business apportionment to contend with.
* To prepare voluntary declarations for VAT.
* To attend VAT visits as necessary.
Consultancy:
* To advise on liability queries - business/non-business and rate queries, including contract review.
* To advise on property issues, including new builds, building works, sales (and TOGCs), and cost issues.
* To advise on developing/agreeing practical and appropriate VAT recovery methods and processes.
* To advise on structuring, including the use of trading subsidiaries, and recharges between entities.
* To respond to ad hoc questions from clients/team members on a wide range of issues.
* To liaise with and manage working relationships with HMRC during routine VAT inspections and ad hoc audits.
Technical and Departmental Administration (25%)
* To keep up to date with taxation standards and developments within the profession and to attain the requisite number of CPD each year.
* To help the firm and clients keep up to date with these developments.
* To contribute to team publications and seminars.
* To contribute to VAT team publications.
* To undertake training for clients, as appropriate.

Business Development (10%)
* To identify potential sources of work from existing and potential new clients.
* To be a main point of contact for the practices team members and clients with questions.
* To manage 'VAT only' clients (with VAT Senior Manager over-sight).
* To work with the VAT team professionals on technical issues, cover, referrals.
* To consider cross-selling opportunities (audit/tax/strategic advice).
* To prepare reasonable quotes for large projects, monitor WIP and bill as appropriate.
* To develop relationships with client advisors (lawyers etc).
