Tax Supervisor - Barnet - Independent Firm

A small, friendly accountancy practice based in Barnet are currently looking to recruit a Tax Supervisor to oversee their Personal Tax Team. An exciting opportunity for someone looking to leave the corporate grind of Central London and take on a more hands-on role, where they can make a genuine impact on the business.

The Role

You will oversee the firm’s Personal Tax Department, with responsibility for ensuring all tax returns are accurately prepared and submitted to HRMC to deadlines. You will also be responsible for supervising juniors, including review of their work.

Your responsibilities will include;

● Controlling and monitoring the number of Tax Returns completed and ensuring all are submitted by the January deadline,
● Reviewing Tax Returns as completed by the tax/accounts department.
● Preparing Tax Returns when necessary for sole traders, Partnerships and LLP’s.
● Supervising and training the tax/accounts department, where necessary.
● Liaising with senior managers and clients to keep them informed of any issues and progress being made on assignments.

● Involvement with any HMRC enquiry as per instruction from the Accounts and Tax Managers.
● Proactive planning to assist clients with implementation of changes in tax laws or other statutory requirements.
● Attending quarterly CPD updates and other training as required.
● Technical and commercial reading
● Use of technical help lines

● Client liaison and visits where necessary
● Attending to phone calls / correspondence relating to clients, if necessary.
● Helping to develop the business and to seek new opportunities both internally and externally.
● Attending team meetings.
● Completing Time sheet daily.

The Candidate

● 5 years’ tax experience gained within reputable accountancy practices
● Experience of a wide range of different tax returns including sole traders including capital allowances, HNW individuals, non-residents, non-domiciles, CGT computations, partnerships and loss reliefs
● Ideally at least ATT qualified, although candidates who are qualified by experience will be very much considered
● Supervisory experience
● Strong IT skills with knowledge of IRIS Personal Tax and Business Tax
● Able to discuss tax issues confidently and clearly, including with laypeople
● Excellent communication skills with the ability to formulate reasoned views and recommendations, tempering technical knowledge with commercialism to reach optimal solutions
● Able to effectively manage workload, prioritise and meet deadlines
● Strong team player, able to support colleagues and provide help, and contribute to team meetings
● Strong problem solving and analytical skills
● Self-motivated
