If you were to ask many accountancy firms what one word characterises them best, you are likely to hear words such as ambition, commitment and prosperity. In this firm that I am representing, it would be people. Now that’s not to say that this firm doesn’t embody qualities like ambition, commitment and prosperity … far from it. However, it is their clients and professionals that remain of paramount importance to the firm.

It is this approach that has led them to achieve their coveted position in the top tier of accountancy firms, with offices peppered across the UK and internationally. They pride themselves on valuing each of their clients individually. That is why they put so much effort into each of their projects and maintain such a high standard of work – in regards to both the technical and advisory work that they provide.

Growth is another value that they hold in high regard. They believe that by delivering the best work, great client service and maintaining their relationships they will not only retain their original clients but also significantly add to their portfolio though referrals and winning new work.

The VAT team have been pinpointed by the managing partner as a significant growth area. He is looking to hire a VAT manager to become an integral part of the team. Someone who its looking to gain exposure to exciting consultancy work, assist with managing and developing juniors and grow within the firm.

What support you will receive and how far you can go…

Their people oriented approach also applies to the professionals working within their teams. You could never be considered just another number. The partners within indirect tax team genuinely care about the professional development of their staff and their progress within the firm. They offer both in house training and external training for their professionals. They want you to succeed and will support you to achieve your professional goals.

If you do flourish in the position, you will get promoted. Simple!

I know a lot of firms make promotions seem complicated. Some firms won’t consider what you have achieved, what your potential is and instead you find yourself playing a game of office politics. The emphasis on individuality at this firm means that would never pose an issue for you. People are promoted according to ability – nothing else.

They don’t want a manager here…

They want a leader. They want someone who will bring a fresh perspective to the team. Bring new ideas to the group and collectively move them forward. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time and therefore you will delegate work to each of your team and sure it is all completed to a high standard. You will also take an active interest in developing each individual professional to ensure they skills are being maximised, that they are developing and that they are happy.

You will also be responsible for your own portfolio of clients ranging across a number of sectors such as property transactions, business restructures , business disposals, cross border and international trade taxation, Customs duty, reliefs and refunds, HMRC investigations, HMRC disputes and appeals to VAT tribunals and fraud investigations. You will be the first port of call for client and HMRC queries so great communication skills are a must.
