A Tax Accountant role has arisen within a Banks UK Corporation Tax team based in the City of London, which has responsibility for the management of all aspects of the corporation tax position including planning, reporting, compliance and tax risk management. In addition to delivering UK Corporation Tax, the team has responsibility for managing all global tax planning and reporting processes.
The team consists of 35 high performing tax professionals working collectively to support the Head of the Corporation Tax team on delivery of responsibilities and manage communication of tax matters with senior stakeholders (up to and including CFO level and business heads) in the Bank.
Overall purpose of the Tax Accountant role:
* Contribute to specific initiatives that support the delivery of the banks Tax planning targets
* Help assess planning initiatives from a technical perspective and by reference to the banks Tax Principles
* Focus on the impact of tax on regulatory capital as well as traditional tax metrics
* Assist in the communication with senior stakeholders, both within and outside of Tax, explaining the tax position
* Contribute to various aspects of the reporting and forecasting position
* Assisting with the preparation of the banks tax return and review of compliance work prepared by the outsource provider
* Engage with HMRC including resolution of material tax issues
Key Accountabilities:
* Support more senior team members in their management and delivery of the UK Corporation Tax reporting and compliance process
* Ability to develop specialist technical knowledge. The UK Corporation Tax team allocates specialist technical areas to responsible individuals who are then the "go to" point of contact for that specialism. These allocations will change over time. Therefore the candidate will be flexible, adaptable and capable of quickly mastering a new brief IFRS and IAS 12 tax accounting knowledge.
* There is an emphasis on end to end ownership of the above specialisms and pillars including risk management, tax planning, forecasting, group and statutory reporting, tax returns, and HMRC resolution
* Develop an in-depth understanding of tax considerations and risk implications associated with planning transactions
* Ensure implications of planning initiatives are appropriately reflected from a financial reporting and tax compliance perspective
Skills and Qualifications:
You will be ideally a newly qualified CTA, ACA from the BIG 4 or a qualified solicitor and have:
* A strong UK corporate tax technical and IFRS knowledge, in particular in relation to financial instruments and CFCs, and an appreciation of the interaction with other tax disciplines (e.g. VAT) and tax legislation in other jurisdictions
* An understanding of tax planning and a desire to build on this
* The ability to apply tax knowledge to identify tax risks
* Effective communication skills (written and verbal) coupled with the ability to articulate complex tax issues in a simple manner to tax or non-tax specialists
