VAT Accountant or Manager, International plc, Manchester, to £45k

In-house tax team of international Plc seeks a VAT accountant or VAT Manager. Ideally an indirect tax specialist with proven experience of dealing with large group reporting and advisory work, is sought by in-house team. You may have gained experience in a Big 4 firm or in industry. Experience of VAT in a manufacturing and distribution environment an advantage. Would suit someone who enjoys being at the centre of a commercial business where your skills will be in demand for wide ranging queries. Experience of managing relationships with HMRC an advantage. Your role will also involve reviewing internal processes with a view to improvement. Ideally your experience will include:

• Practical knowledge of applying VAT in an international business in at least 1 European country either in house, or as an advisor. Exposure to VAT in more than one country preferred
• A good understanding of international supply chains, in particular in movement of goods.
• Practical experience of implementing business change to support an Indirect tax cost or process improvement, in particular demonstration of influencing skills.
• Familiarity with designing and testing SAP systems for Indirect tax needs.
• Awareness of customs issues.
• Comfortable reading and applying VAT legislation, tax cases and published VAT guidance.
• A genuine interest in broadening tax skills beyond Indirect Tax and/or experience of compliance processes in another UK tax.
• Have the ability to communicate complex issues to non UK staff and develop mutually acceptable solutions
It is likely that you will have a minimum of 3 years' UK VAT experience.
