My client is a 40 staff specialist tax/ wealth management firm who manage the wealth and complexity of high net worth individuals looking to move, invest or retire across the US/Canada border. They are the largest cross-border wealth management firm in North America that specializes in assisting Canadians and Americans realize their dreams of a cross-border lifestyle. The majority of their clients are business owners looking to sell their business in Canada and retire in the US. Often known as “Snowbirds”.
Due to continued growth within the firm they seek to hire a Canadian/US cross border private client/individual Tax Manager. You will be working with the firm’s wealth planners and other tax advisors to provide clients with a bespoke holistic approach to their particular tax situation.
You will focus on consulting residents in Canada who are of a high net worth nature. The person may want to have a cross border lifestyle (Snow birds), have some Owner managed businesses to consider, may be selling their business or retiring. The role will be 75% compliance, 25% consulting in the early stages moving to a more balanced 50/50.
You will need to be very grounded around Canadian tax with some understanding of US cross border exposure. You will preferably be a Canadian CA with some knowledge of the US tax system from a cross border perspective. US CPA will also be considered. Good communication skills, reviewing US or Canadian tax returns. Working side by side with the wealth planners. Heavy liaising with wealth planners, tax staff and tax preparers. Mentoring staff and developing other people.
There are clear paths to progression as the firm will look to groom you into being the future leader of the firms cross border tax department. You will work side by side a highly technical department leader who you will be expected to learn from and shadow.
