Reporting to the Tax Director, this is a pivotal role within the Tax function, offering plenty of variety in terms of UK focused tax advisory and project work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

The department enjoys a high profile within the business and this role will involve regular contact with senior personnel in key operational areas of the business. The role will suit candidates with an in-depth knowledge of UK tax law who are able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, who have a natural ability to lead and inspire and who have a proven track-record of delivering pragmatic and value-adding solutions to tax issues.

Your key responsibilities will include:

* Providing leadership for specific projects and initiatives, including M&A and structuring activities
* Providing effective tax support and advice to the business to identify and resolve tax issues
* Raising awareness of Tax across the business
* Providing tax input and analysis of all treasury-related activities, including dividend planning and intra-group financing
* Accountability for a range of strategic and technical tax issues
* Managing external tax advisor relationships and playing a key role in managing the relationship with HMRC
* Management of the Direct Tax Manager
* Helping to ensure compliance with the group's SAO and risk controls environment;
* Working collaboratively with Tax colleagues responsible for Indirect Tax, Employment Tax and International issues

The successful candidate should have the following capabilities:

* Very strong technical ability - likely to be ACA and / or CTA (or equivalent)
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills - ability to explain complex issues clearly and simply to non-experts
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with proven ability to identify practical and innovative solutions
* Focus on delivery, with excellent time-management skills
* Personal accountability and a high level of attention to detail
* Good team-player
* Confident and self-motivated, with ability to work on own initiative
