Operational Tax Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operational Tax Manager to support the management of Operational Taxes across the UK & Europe region of this leading Pensions & Life business. The role sits within the UK & Europe Tax team within the Group finance function and, reporting to the Head of UK Operational Taxes, the successful candidate will play a leading role in ensuring that operational tax systems, processes and controls deliver strong levels of regulatory compliance in the most efficient, effective and customer centric way.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the provision of positive assurance to the UK & Europe business Life & Pensions business ensuring that all operational taxes are being operated correctly
• Highlight areas for development and ensure necessary changes are implemented appropriately
• Ensure operational tax considerations relating to new products or other developments are identified and any necessary actions taken
• Take responsibility for managing tax related procedures and issues for relevant business area
• Actively monitor HMRC/HMT and other external regulatory output, news and developments relating to operational taxes, Budget changes, considering and implementing required actions
• Support the continuous improvement of operational tax processes
• Support the management of relationships with external bodies, including HMRC, ABI and TISA, influencing consultations in relation to UK and European tax and regulatory developments
• Take responsibility for technical accuracy of statutory returns as well as relevant customer tax documentation
• Provide operational tax advice and guidance to business managers to ensure HMRC and other requirements are met and review such advice provided by less experienced staff.
• Under supervision of Head of UK Operational Taxes, lead operational tax responses to new propositions and strategic deals
Key Criteria
• Operational Tax knowledge and experience in respect of Pensions products and underlying legislation/regulations.
• Ability to work to tight timescales, balancing conflicting demands whilst maintaining professional standards.
• Sound appreciation of good practice in relation to Risk Management and Continuous Improvement activities.
• Understanding and practical experience of operational tax requirements and regimes. e.g. ISA, US QI, HMRC reporting - FATCA/Type 18/EUSD.
• Experience of working with HMRC/HMT and other appropriate fiscal authorities and collaboratively amongst peers at Industry level.
• Proven track record in providing accurate, reliable and pragmatic consultancy support to a wide range of internal stakeholders including Senior Management and Executive. Examples of such advice and support to range from individual processes/products up to senior decisions in relation to wider proposition and strategic transactions.
