Here at ITS we are working with a highly regarded International Law Firm who are widely recognised as being the law firm of choice for successful international people. This firm have been acting for successful individuals, families and institutions for over 100 years. They advise clients on their business and personal legal needs both at home and abroad.
Due to continued expansion of the firm and the recent opening of a Sydney office the firms seeks to hire a US Qualified Tax Associate, Senior Associate, Special Counsel or Partner to play a pinnacle role in the development of the Sydney operation. You will link in heavily with the firms Singapore, Hong Kong and European offices so experience gained within one of these jurisdictions would be highly desirable but no essential.

Requirement
The position requires an experienced US qualified tax lawyer ideally with a tax LLM interested in a position in Sydney for a minimum of 3 years.
You will be at the forefront of developing the firms Wealth Planning US practice in Australia. The role will be client facing and you will be expected to undertake significant business development activity. You will be experienced in succession and voluntary disclosure work and ideally business and investment structuring.
You will advise high net worth individuals, their closely held businesses and their families on US and international tax, trust and estate planning. In addition you will advise on all aspects of wealth structuring, using domestic and international trusts and foundations, private trust companies in the US as well as offshore jurisdictions and co-ordinate the acquisition of appropriate investments. You will focus on US estate planning, US taxation of trusts with US beneficiaries, US citizenship and green card matters including renunciation and relinquishment, cross-border charitable giving and certain US tax compliance including FATCA and the IRS Voluntary Disclosure programs.
You will advise clients on the basis of legal knowledge, research and past precedent as to whether to proceed with legal action. In addition, the Lawyer will help successful families and entrepreneurs around the world structure their assets in a way that will preserve their wealth now and for future generations.

Skills and experience required;
You must be able to provide advice to settlers, fiduciaries and beneficiaries regarding the establishment and management of offshore succession structures. Must be able to deliver a high quality professional service with a focus on tax. Must already be admitted to practice law in the US. It is imperative that you will be willing to commit at least 3 years in Sydney (relocation package available). Further relocation opportunities then available within the firms global office network. LLM in taxation or estate planning and International Tax experience is preferable
