The UK & Ireland tax jobs market is incredibly candidate-driven, and has been for many years. The reason for this is primarily down to under-recruiting of graduates by accounting firms, resulting in an insufficient supply of qualified tax accountants and a glut of tax jobs in the UK & Ireland.
Many UK & Irish accounting firms have recruited tax professionals from the EU in order to meet this shortfall, but Brexit means that it is likely to be a longer process to hire non-UK citizens, as visa sponsorship will be required. This could exacerbate the problem and increase the number of UK tax jobs. In Dublin the larger tax firms have historically hired from further afield than Europe, sourcing tax professionals from India, Pakistan, Australia and South Africa.
