Our client, a FTSE 100 company is internationally recognised as being a leader in the retail sector. They have an established tax team which is renowned in the market as being an excellent place to learn the ropes of VAT.
Purpose of the Role:
The purpose of the role is to ensure the accurate completion of the Group VAT returns and the integrity of the data in the general ledger
Key Accountabilities:
* Completion of quarterly Group VAT return and bi-monthly Irish VAT return and related declarations. Validation of other overseas VAT returns.
* Calculation of monthly retail scheme (output VAT) calculation.
* Carry out monthly review of VAT liability assigned to new products.
* Accuracy and integrity of VAT and duty data held in GL and other business systems.
* Timely payments to H M Revenue & Customs and other tax authorities.
* Dealing with routine correspondence from H M Revenue & Customs.
* Dealing with queries and issues raised by the business units.
* Assist with the analysis and implementation of planning opportunities to save tax.
* Maintain VAT procedure notes and flowcharts.
The Candidate:

Technical Skills needed:
* Accounting/bookkeeping experience
* Experienced User of SAP and Microsoft Office packages (including Excel)
* Ability to manage a complex and varied workload, often to tight deadlines
* Good attention to detail
* Ability to solve problems and apply judgement
* Ability to understand and apply complex VAT rules (knowledge of VAT rules not essential)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
