To work as part of the tax policy team on the development of policy on issues concerning the taxation of insurance companies, with particular focus on life tax and financial services products. To work with the wider department to provide support on tax issues affecting general developments in policy on insurance issues, such as: financial regulation; solvency; and product regulation. To represent and help members of the ABI represent industry views and interests to UK government, European bodies and other relevant.
Principal Areas of Work
•Review policy on maintenance and operation of the UK regime for life taxation, though consultation with members, and influence decision making by representing the industry’s views in writing or in discussion with as HM Revenue and Customs, HM Treasury, Parliament or other commentators.
•Present and support members views on specific areas raised during the ongoing HMRC review of “Taxation of life insurance companies” and present the industry view on proposed legislative or other changes to the UK tax regime for life companies.
•Support members of the tax team: managing one or more of the ABI tax panels; assisting on policy development on wider tax issues dealt with by the team, such as savings incentives, policyholder tax, corporate tax or indirect tax issues, where appropriate.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• A broad understanding of, or interest in obtaining experience and knowledge on, a range of non-tax issues including financial and product regulation, financial reporting and accounting and wider developments in financial markets.
