An opportunity to join this leading international retail business, with operations in over 20 countries, as Group VAT Manager.
The role will assume overall responsibility for all VAT matters arising in the UK Group where the VAT compliance is outsourced to Group Tax. There will also be responsibility for maintaining oversight of the VAT matters for the other UK businesses that undertake the VAT compliance in-house and for the VAT matters of the non-UK businesses.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake the VAT compliance for the UK Businesses where specialist tax knowledge is required;
- manage all VAT matters surrounding UK bespoke retail schemes, VAT Capital Goods Schemes and the Group partial exemption special method, negotiating amendments with HMRC as required;
- act as a consultant to the Businesses on all VAT related issues in order to ensure the Group is tax compliant and transactions are structured in the most tax efficient way;
- oversee the VAT affairs on non-UK businesses to ensure tax compliant;
- identify indirect tax savings opportunities for the Group that are in line with the commercials needs to the Business and put forward for approval and implementation if they meet the risk profile of the Business; and
- lead and motivate the Group VAT team and the Business in-house finance teams responsible for VAT matters to deliver all VAT objectives for 2010/11 and to develop a positive collaborative working environment.
Key requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years VAT experience in a tax environment in a large multi-national in industry or in one of the Big 4 part with ideally experience of VAT matters in retailers;
- extensive experience of UK VAT matters including experience of retail schemes, partial exemption methods and Capital Goods Schemes;
- extensive experience in VAT matters relating to cross border business transactions;
- extensive experience in practical application of complex tax requirements in business scenarios;
- proven track record of delivery in cross-functional and cross-business projects; and
- proven ability to influence and communicate successfully at all levels.
