Our client is an investment bank, with operations in Asia, Europe and America. The scope of business in London covers Global Markets, Investment Banking, Merchant Banking and Asset Management. This makes for an interesting and challenging environment for the Tax Group in London.
The Tax Department is responsible for monitoring the Firm's tax risk, dealing with all direct and indirect tax compliance as well as Business Unit support. The European Tax department is broadly divided into three groups: Group Tax, encompassing reporting (internal and external), compliance, planning, group tax issues and transfer pricing, Indirect Tax and Business Unit, front office support.
This vacancy is for a Group Tax Manager, reporting to the Deputy Head of Taxation. Group tax is made up of a team of 3 full time tax professionals. The primary responsibility of this role is the corporate tax compliance for a portfolio of UK entities, plus the collation of reporting information from certain European locations that our have offices in. The successful candidate will interact with colleagues in all divisions and at a wide variety of levels within the firm.
Role / Principal Accountabilities:
- Lead member of a 3 person group tax team responsible for the day to day tax compliance for all UK legal entities
- Preparation and management of quarterly tax numbers for internal reporting (reconciling adjustments between UK GAAP and US GAAP implications), using Abacus software
- Preparation and management of corporate tax returns and tax payment calculations, including group relief, CFC reviews, DTR calculations, analysis of relief available under relevant double tax treaties
- Calculation and forecasting of quarterly CTSA group payments, plus management of tax balances with HMRC
- Significant interaction with Financial Controllers on all matters, including all firm tax balances
- Review of Financial Statements and preparation of statutory Tax Notes
- Dealing with UK HMRC enquiries and correspondence
- Involvement with new and existing transfer pricing arrangements, plus management of an in-house platform through which inter-company cross border Agreements are managed
- Identifying tax risk and executing solutions in respect of new and changing business activities
- Identifying and researching tax technical issues
- Liasing with Business Support colleagues within the Tax department to understand business issues and structured transactions to ensure their correct treatment in group tax reporting
- Opportunity for involvement in planning, structuring and WHT analysis through ad hoc projects
- Provide technical support to HR department on complicated employment tax issues as and when they arise
Skills & Experience Required:
- Strong track record in UK corporate tax compliance and reporting with CTA qualification preferred Strong accounting skills with ACA qualification preferred
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently, as required
- Keen attitude and willingness to develop skills as well as a desire to take on more responsibilities
- Ability to communicate and build relationships with all levels of management
- Financial services experience is advantageous, but not essential
