This well known consumer electronics company is looking to hire a European Customs Duty Manager.
Your main responsibilities will be to manage customs duty issues arising across Europe. This particular industry has seen a significant increase in classification disputes over the last five years. The HQ and EHQ have a strong impetus to improve duty management so this will be a pivotal role.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure that the strategic objectives set by the Headquarters Customs Teams and European Tax Director are effectively implemented in Europe.
* Monitor and review the classification of new and existing products for the subsidiaries in Europe.
* Assist in the effective management of post clearance audits across Europe to make sure that any customs duty issues on clearance are efficiently resolved.
* Obtain Binding Tariff Information ("BTI") for all European subsidiaries for strategic products on a centralised basis.
* Monitor the current implementation of self-checking tools which identify significant discrepancies between customs duty/import VAT declarations and accruals.
* Ensure that current processes for claiming preference are working effectively.
* Identify and propose solutions for any customs duty issues found in terms of internal controls, changes to the system or new processes.
* Identify risks or opportunities arising through changes in law within the EU on CN codes, rules of origin or in classification practice.
* Build relationships with key internal business contacts and external advisors and work closely with the European finance team on resolving any local VAT audits arising
